This is a story about Queen Esther like you've never read before. It is a great love story set in the glittering capital of the Persian Empire during the time that Persia ruled the world. It is very much a woman's book, telling the familiar story from Esther's perspective as a Jewish woman who is living out a dangerous masquerade, made even more dangerous by the fact that she has fallen in love with her own husband, who doesn't know who she is. It is also a book that will resonate with the modern Christian because it shows how one woman of deep faith can indeed change the face of a family, a community, a world.
In A Reluctant Queen (Thomas Nelson, p, $15.99, ISBN: 9781595548764), author Joan Wolf's creativity and excellent writing skills bring to life this powerful, timeless story of love, faith, and how God works His plans through ordinary people. She convincingly fills in the gaps of the biblical account with beautiful enhancements of the romance as well as the drama. While learning proper royal protocol and amid entanglement in palace intrigues, the unlikely happens: Queen Esther falls deeply in love with her husband. When she discovers the diabolical scheme of an evil high-ranking official against the Jewish nation, she has to make a decision that threatens her marriage and her life to save her people. Wolf fulfills her concept of writing a novel by creating “believable reasoning characters who drive the action.” With romance, wonderful characterizations, historically based accounts of the ancient Jewish and Persian cultures, and an amazing ending, this excellent read will be a hard-to-put-down winner for historical romance fans.

#1 Nice interview, Nancy! Joan
Nice interview, Nancy! Joan sndous a wonderful person. The part that strikes me the most is how she'd work on her current book every day. I agree, momentum is important and very difficult to get back once interrupted, especially for longer works. A Reluctant Queen sndous interesting, so even though I don't usually read romance, I'm looking forward to your review on it. =)
